Great Wisdom Buddhist Institute (“GWBI”) is a monastery for Buddhist nuns, located in eastern Prince Edward Island, Canada. We are the largest group of Buddhist nuns outside of Asia studying and preserving Tibetan Buddhism, a rapidly fading world heritage.
As of January 2026, there are approximately 600 nuns at GWBI. While most of us come from Taiwan, some of us hail from Canada, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United States.
