This rural small seacoast community hugging the scenic Fortune River with traditions of farming and fishing, is commonly referred to as Fortune, Fortune Bridge or Bay Fortune. Early settlers date back to the 1700’s and their names are included in the heritage sites of Bay Fortune United Church cemetery (route 310) and the French and Acadian Settlement Cemetery (route 340). The present Inn of Bay Fortune was built by the late Elmer Harris, an American playwright, in 1908. The most famous of his plays was “Johnny Belinda” characterized by the local inhabitants of the Fortune area. This historic “place to stay “ landscapes over the beautiful Fortune Bay and River.

Attractions in the community include boating, canoeing, and kayaking; secluded beautiful beaches stretching between Howe Point and Rollo Bay; a small seaport where the local fishers continue the tradition of lobster fishing; trout fishing on the river and a nine-hole golf course in Rollo Bay.
