Your Mother’s Dishes was born during a time where Art Therapy was an essential part of my mental well being.
Creating Mosaic Art using plates, cups, bone china and whatever I find while thrifting is not only an excellent way to upcycle material destined for the landfill, it also brings me immense pleasure to create something so beautiful from items that have historic value and were once so personal.
My work tends to be nature inspired, and you can find me working in my little Art Shed at home on our hobby farm.
Commissions are welcome, with my china or yours, created in the off season.

We are a tulip UPICK farm.
Admission required to enter, Admission does not include picking tulips – there is an additional cost to pick tulips.
We are 4.5 acres, millions of tulips, in collaboration with VANCO Farms.
Created to give people a place to immerse themselves in tulips so they stay OUT of Vanco’s working tulip fields.
We have a small 21 day window that we are open due to the nature of the tulips being in bloom. We are open everyday during that window from 9 am – dusk. Unless the wind becomes too dangerous for us to be open (Belfast is very windy).
We don’t have a phone that the public can call due to the nature of existing in a farm field.

While foraging for nectar and pollen, our bees provide a necessary service: POLLINATION. It is fascinating to watch these tiny creatures work, communicate and nurture and how these unsung heroes’ labours sustain the food chain that supports global food security, ecosystem stability and human life.

JoBees honeybees provide an incredibly clear, light and sweet honey – directly from the hive, filtered, to jars for your enjoyment.

JoBees is starting a new line of Shoe/Boot leather care using beeswax from my hives.

5) improving access and enjoyment of natural and recreational spaces in the Region such as Lakeside Beach and The Meike Trail, and

6) organizing social/cultural/community events that offer residents and businesses alike, the opportunity to connect.

Our mission at Maytree Eco Retreat is simple. We want our guests to leave inspired.

Georgetown boasts the first harbour to be built on the Eastern Seaboard and one of the deepest harbours in North America.

Georgetown Harbour was recognized by both French and English colonists as one of the best anchorages. Makes sense, then, that it has generated much of the area’s economic activity. For example, in the late 19th century, Georgetown was a major shipbuilding centre and port, and it played a major role in the East Coast’s shipping industry. It also provided steamship service to Pictou, Nova Scotia, thus enabling a railway connection to the rest of the country. Georgetown Harbour was the last port to freeze over in heavy winters and often the only point of contact with the mainland. Today, the bustling harbour is still a major community attraction.

The Mi’kmaq people have been present in this area for more than 9000 years, and the French and Acadian settlers, who began to arrive in the early 1700s, prospered in harmony.

Havre Saint Pierre, or St. Peter’s Harbour, was the first commercial settlement on the Island, established in the early 1700s. It has been home to the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq and their ancestors for at least 9000 years. Archaeological evidence from the Jones site at Greenwich National Park, as well as other archaeological sites in the vicinity, point to a continuous Indigenous occupation in this area before and after European settlement. The Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq continued to live here in the early 1700s with the arrival of the French and Acadian settlers. These European settlers were attracted to the area by the harbour, the fishery, and arable lands. Although the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq and European settlers had a different way of life they were both dependent on the abundant local resources and managed a peaceful co-existence. This came to an end when the Island was surrendered to the British Forces in 1758 and the Acadians were deported disrupting the previous way of life here.

Mention Rollo Bay to almost any Islander and they will immediately think “fiddle.” And with good reason!

Fiddling has always been part of the Rollo Bay scene. For example, there is the annual Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival, dating back to 1976. What began as a one-day event with primarily local talent has grown into a three-day celebration featuring the who’s who of fiddling from across the globe. Thousands of fans converge on the 60-acre site with campers, tents, lawn chairs and lots of enthusiasm. Step dancing and square dancing are part of the entertainment. Square sets, which differ from region to region, typically have four figures or series of movements. The local version, however, has three figures and starts from a circle rather than a square.

Souris has always been a friendly seaside town.

The Mi’kmaq enjoyed Sqolijwe’katik (frogs’ place), now known as Souris, as a seasonal fishing ground long before the first French and Acadian settlers came to the area in 1720. In 1758 the Acadians were deported by British colonial forces and the British divided the Island into lots. Lot 45, on which Souris stands, was given to two Englishmen who did not settle the land. Some Acadians managed to return to the area, and they successfully claimed squatters’ rights to become landowners for the first time. The Souris River and the abundance of tall trees made Souris an ideal shipbuilding centre which led to a booming local economy during the 19th century.

An important ingredient in the popular dessert can be found right here at Basin Head.

The Marine Protected Area is Prince Edward Island’s only natural habitat for Chondrus Crispus, a giant variety of Irish moss rich in carrageen, and used in many household products such as ice cream and sunscreen. The local wildlife group consistently monitors the growth of the moss, undergoing restoration activities as needed. Water from several sites is sampled for nutrient analysis, streamflow measurement, and water chemistry. Clumps of the Irish moss and PEI Blue Mussels have been planted at select locations and are surveyed and documented to restore the Irish moss population at Basin Head to healthy, self-sustaining levels.

Canada’s 150th anniversary is something to be proud of! To commemorate the occasion, what better way than one of the largest collaborative art pieces in the nation! With over 1000 people having input into the design of the mosaic, this mosaic truly represents Canada’s beauty. The design team took all written suggestions and put this together on a mock-up of this piece, which is 42” by 15’, now installed at the Cavendish Farms Wellness centre. The mosaic was painted by over 200 citizens of the community; the majority of who have no previous painting experience. An initiative of the former Town of Montague, and facilitated by David Trimble, this piece took just over three months to complete and was appropriately named “Impressions of Canada”.  

Kerri Wynne was an unforgettable Island treasure who grew up in Montague, PEI. The vibrant and colorful life that she lived was much like the Island itself – a combination of textures, colors, and identities woven together in one warm and welcoming embrace. Kerri Wynne believed butterflies are sacred and found great comfort in them. If you look closely at the design of these wings, you will see many elements that represent the life Kerri Wynne lived and the things she loved.

The Eastern Kings ATV Club, based in the Murray River area of eastern Prince Edward Island, is a community-oriented organization dedicated to responsible all-terrain vehicle (ATV) use, trail development, and environmental stewardship. Established to serve ATV enthusiasts east of the Hillsborough River, the club has become a cornerstone of PEI’s outdoor recreation scene, fostering adventure, community engagement, and respect for nature. Founded with a vision to connect Eastern Queens and Kings counties through a network of trails, the Eastern Kings ATV Club has played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining routes that highlight the Island’s natural beauty. The club is committed to realizing the dream of an Island-wide ATV trail system that spans from tip to tip, promoting tourism and outdoor experiences across PEI.

The Eastern Kings ATV Club remains focused on responsible riding, trail development, and community engagement.

This mural is a snapshot of the long tradition of catching lobster on this island. The work may have been hard and uncertain, with no guarantees of how big the catch would be, or if the weather and tides would work in the fishermen’s favor. But there place of work is hard to beat, for its beautiful surroundings.

About the Artist

Her muse is the landscape and sea of the Island where the richness of the colour of the island and the calm blue shores inspires her, to try to capture the essence of this land. “I get immense satisfaction from painting. In an age when noise and activity is difficult to escape, I try to paint “The Moment” with light being the only actor. Painting subjects, in a window of intimacy, with no hidden meaning, and no explanation. I paint, with just the chance, that the viewer may find, for however brief of time, a space where no noise or action is required.”

This mural spotlights family in the traditional way of everyday life here in PEI (or Canada) circa 1920. Every day the “chores” practiced by families kept them fed, warm, clean, and comfortable. Farming was not their hobby, it was survival and most homes, city, or country, had a garden of substantial size. Every member of the family participated in order to have food for the winter when food was scarce. This family is harvesting potatoes; they put enough away to eat during the winter and seed for the next crop; they give some to their neighbors who helped in the planting and harvesting and if there are enough left, they sell a few to the merchant. You, reading this plaque, have probably never thought about the work our forefathers performed in order to survive. 

About the Artist

There are many people who will stare intently at a painting but just pass by the actual scene without taking a second glance. Artists take the time to see what others do not and translate those sights to canvas. “I want people to really look at my creations, to take that second glance and say, ‘Why didn’t I see that before?’. Fishers in boats, shorelines, quilts hanging on a clothesline, barnyards, potato fields…these are the scenes and the ways of life which bekon me.” Lorraine instructs and has been painting for 13 years.

The concept of this wooden mural includes sawmill blades to convey the importance of the lumber industry in the development of the Town of Montague. First the attempted sawmill by David Higgins in the late 1700’s and then, nearly a century later, two separate operations owned by Phillip Beers and Donald Campbell in the mid 1800’s. Additional elements include the rolling architectural and wooden fields Montague is nestled within, and the waves of Montague’s waterfront. The art piece is a blend of donated scrap wood materials from the supportive and friendly community members of the Kings County region of PEI- coming together to make their town beautiful. 

About the Artist

As self taught wood artists, the use of waste materials began as a source of free wood to experiment with. However, the environmental aspect has become increasingly apparent as we have honed our skills. The supply of wood that is cast aside continues to overwhelm our studio space. We work with organic curves of the wood. Much traditional woodworking involves precise measurements, straight lines, and calculated planning. This is not our process. There is a magic of coincidence to our pieces. Our inventory of “garbage” wood always includes pieces of the perfectly required dimensions. Our designs create an interaction with our art as an everyday object. This interaction brings an environmental consciousness into everyday life which both artists and patrons experience. 

This mural is a snapshot of how hard and difficult the work was of being a fisherman. Catching tuna was usually the most difficult as it took the fisherman time and patience to land the fish in their small boats. Men would tie them together so they could help each other with the work which also gave stability to their small craft.
