Nabuurs Fruit Orchards promotes a farm to table experience, welcoming those who wish to come harvest their own fresh fruit through a U-Pick. We have walking trails on a total of 35 Acres located in Cardigan PEI. Those who visit get to experience natural occuring trees (native species is no longer a welcomed term for further eductation). We offer easy home recipes to guide those in the kitchen for the delicious use of out fresh and frozen fruit. Tourists are welcomed to snack fresh fruit in the field free of charge and pay at the gate for what they leave with. This allows for natures best outdoor experience. The Cidery is located in Caledonia, the heart of south-eastern Prince Edward Island. Named for the ravine that dissects the land into two hills, we are now growing 16 different varieties of cider apples. The farm is also home to a wide variety of wild apple trees that provide apples to our Nomad cider.

“What happens when a farm and a kitchen become one?”

Voted one of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants, The FireWorks is named for Chef Michael Smith’s 25-foot brick-lined, wood-burning, fire-breathing beast that anchors the nightly Feast at The Inn at Bay Fortune, Prince Edward Island. The Fire Brigade creates a new menu daily using ingredients from The Inn at Bay Fortune’s Culinary Farm and herb gardens. It showcases wild foraging and a myriad of locally sourced flavours. The FireWorks Feast is served nightly from May 17 to October 13, 2024.

Our unique dining experience takes place over four hours featuring ingredients from our Culinary Farm, foraged and local tastes. Start with a Culinary Farm Tour with a petite Farm Taste of the freshest vegetable on the farm. Next is Oyster Hour featuring ember roasted oysters, unlimited raw oysters and various stations with hors d’oeuvres cooked or smoked with live fire. After a toast, we Feast.  The Feast includes a sit-down multi-course meal in front of our 25-foot live-fire hearth. We serve a Bread course, Iron Chowder, Earth Plate & Salad Course, Meat with Vegetable Course, and Farm Dessert.  Ending the night is our seasonal house-made marshmallows to roast over an open fire.

The Inn at Bay Fortune features its own cookbooks, Lookout, Fire Garden, experimental chefs garden, immersive art forest trails with natural art sculptures, Mushroom Patch, Apple Orchard and many other features. Plus, a flock of free-range hens and pigs who naturally help remove pests, till and fertilize our Culinary Farm soil.

Visitors are welcome to tour the beautifully restored homestead and to view exhibits that reflect the life and times of this outstanding Islander (1864-1938). Enjoy concerts, ceilidhs, tea parties, symposiums, Tea Room lunches and more. 140 acres with gardens, walking trails, ecological forestry project and native tree and shrub nursery are open for your enjoyment. In the summer we open the windows of the Veranda wide to let the breeze in. Enjoy fresh local homestyle cooking in a Heritage Homestead surrounded by large linden trees and English Oaks. We grow all our own vegetables and use them in the soups and salads. Some of our specialties are Mistress Catherine’s Fish Cakes made with salt cod and served with salad and homemade beans. The Orwell Salad is a potato salad with a delightful twist. Boiled baby reds tossed in home-made pesto dressing with cheddar cheese, boiled egg and green beans. Start with our Garden veggie soup or complete your meal with a moist carrot cake, bread pudding with whiskey sauce or our seasonal fruit dessert that changes with the season.

Sir Andrew Macphail was one of ten children raised in this mid 1800s farm house. Sir Andrew was a medical doctor, medical professor at McGill University, a prolific writer, editor of various magazines including founding and then being the first editor of the Canadian Medical Journal. In January 1918 Macphail received a knighthood for his literary accomplishments and military service. Macphail enlisted in World War I at the age of 50, and served at the front with a field ambulance corps for 20 months. As a member of the Sixth Field Ambulance, he served in several battles, including Vimy Ridge. You are invited to take a tour followed by a snack in the unique Veranda tearoom.
