Write Your Book on Prince Edward Island

Whether it’s the memoir you can’t seem to make time for, a collection of journals you don’t know what to do with, or a fifteenth draft you’re tired of wrestling with… what better place to birth a book than Prince Edward Island?

Curated by best-selling author, ghostwriter, book coach, and proud Islander Jaime Lee Mann, this private literary experience is designed to turn your idea into something tangible.

Before your feet hit the red soil, JL will review your unfinished draft, messy notes, and scattered ideas to get a better sense of your world and your unique point of view.

Once you’re all settled in, she’ll meet with you to discuss your project in more detail. Then, while you explore the region’s beaches, lighthouses, restaurants, and tranquility, she’ll be nearby shaping the bones of your story into what she calls a “Planuscript” — a clear, workable foundation for the book that’s been begging to be brought to life.

This experience is best suited for stories of resilience, grief, recovery, or any sort of transformative life experience that deserves to be told honestly and held with care.

You’ll leave the Island with direction, momentum, and support for your story.

Space is limited. Contact JL for details and availability.

Creative Rebel Studio is a creative haven in Eastern Prince Edward Island, where everyone is an artist. No matter your age, we invite you to drop in & create, take a workshop, or browse the gallery & boutique.

Our studio is for everyone, whether you are a seasoned artist, just starting out, or you feel pretty uncomfy with making things — but you want to, anyway.

This is the perfect space for locals and tourists, especially if you need a break from the sun and sand. We’re air conditioned, boast the best playlists, and our coffee and tea is complementary for adults! Children under 14 must be supervised at all times.

Check our website for all ages & family workshops during the summer season!

Off Season Hours: Open Saturdays 10-5 and Sundays 12-4

From the top of the hills on either side… you’ll have a view! Fishing and pleasure boats tie up in the wide lazy river. A gazebo on its bank often hosts open-air concerts. A former train station now hosts Island East visitor information centre. It is the entry point to cycle and walk the Confederation Trail. On the upper reaches of the banks, the old customs house, now the Garden of the Gulf Museum, stately stands giving the river a sense of place. Montague wharf on the opposite side of the river is home to several fishing boats.

This busy site hosts many community functions, thanks to its extensive green space. Multi-berth marina with floating berths, water, showers, artisans shop and restaurants. There are several Restaurants, 2 Breweries and Motel in walking distance. The Montague River is a Canadian Heritage River, designated in 2004.

Built in 1880, Souris East Lighthouse is a white and red square tapered wooden tower with a round lantern.

This 11 km stretch of trail between Morell and St. Peter’s Bay is considered by many to be the most picturesque the island has to offer. Winding along the shoreline, the trail crosses the mouth of the Morell River on a 235 foot long bridge, provides a breath-taking view of Greenwich National Park across the water, and passes by a myriad of mussel socks in St. Peter’s Bay before arriving at St. Peter’s Landing.

Island Trails is a unique walking and cycling experience extending tip-to-tip across Prince Edward Island. Created on the bed of the Prince Edward Island Railway, it is 274km from Tignish in western PEI to the east end at Elmira. Including branches into coastal communities, the trail is 390km long. The trail passes through woodlands, farms, over bridges and along rivers offering unlimited opportunities for nature lovers, artists, historians, photographers, berry-pickers or anyone seeking a quiet place to enjoy the uniqueness of PEI.

There is no real wilderness on the Island. Frequent villages and towns offer services to trail explorers, and shelters are placed every 5km. The main trail in Points East Coastal Drive begins in Bedford and continues eastward through Morell along the coastline, beside St. Peter’s Bay and then inland to the Railway Museum at Elmira. Along the way, branch lines extend to Georgetown, Montague and Souris. For trail details check www.islandtrails.ca

Learn the story of railroading on the Island through photographs, maps, material and cultural objects, and the original station master’s office.

Take a ride through the woods on our trackless electric train – a wonderful experience for kids an adults alike – then ride the ‘wye’ in a 1986 Fairmount speeder train car along the original track used since the mid-1930s to turn the train at Elmira Station.Home to the PEI Miniature Railway representing railroading on PEI in its early days, and one of Atlantic Canada’s largest model train collections displaying over 200 HO scale models. Enjoy a reading nook where visitors can quietly browse through a large resource library with over 1900 railway-related titles.

Elmira Railway Museum also showcases many items from the retired CN ferry, the Abegweit. For many decades, the trains helped connect passengers to the CN ferries which took people and goods from PEI to the mainland and return. A documentary video shows a CN locomotive loading on the ferry leaving PEI for the last time in December 1989.

On display, is CN Caboose #78431, built from a railway box car in 1943. Visitors can explore the interior, which is used for children’s programming. The Elmira Railway Museum is one of seven provincial heritage sites administered by the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation. You can purchase Heritage Passports that grant access to all seven provincial sites, with senior, student, and family rates available.

Our Gift Shop stocks railroad souvenirs and a wide variety of crafts made by Island artisans. Stay tuned for opening day in 2025.

The easternmost section of PEI National Park, Greenwich has a long and colorful past with fascinating stories to tell from both cultural and natural perspectives. Ecologically rich, Greenwich is home to a rare parabolic dune system and a dynamic coastal environment of wetlands and forests that provide habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna. Some of the highest dunes in the province are found here and visitors and locals love the trails, especially the Greenwich Dunes Trail with its floating boardwalk and breathtaking views. On the cultural side, Greenwich has history stretching back more than 10,000 years. Archaeological finds document ties to the Mi’kmaq, the Indigenous people of PEI, as well as connections to early French settlers. These stories and more are told through exhibits at the Greenwich Interpretation Centre. Not to be missed is a very special marine species at risk exhibit featuring life-sized sculptures of aquatic species at risk, such as the leatherback turtle and angler fish.

Pick up a PEI National Park pass at the Centre and explore the trails or pay a visit to beautiful Greenwich Beach. A pristine white sand beach with a delightful boardwalk entrance and surfguard services in July and August, it is a treasure worth seeking out!

Dates of Operation

Dates for the Greenwich Interpretation Centre: June 8, 2026 – September 7, 2026 (9am – 5pm, 7 days/week)

“One of the best kept secrets in PEI” – Everyone is welcome to come for a visit, have lunch, or just to go for a walk.

Visitors are welcome to tour the beautifully restored homestead and to view exhibits that reflect the life and times of this outstanding Islander (1864-1938). Enjoy concerts, ceilidhs, tea parties, symposiums, Tea Room lunches and more. 140 acres with gardens, walking trails, ecological forestry project and native tree and shrub nursery are open for your enjoyment. Website lists hours of operation, special events, how to book weddings, meetings, etc. Discover what we hear every day: “This is the best kept secret on PEI”.
In the summer we open the windows of the Veranda wide to let the breeze in. Enjoy fresh local homestyle cooking in a Heritage Homestead surrounded by large linden trees and English Oaks. We grow all our own vegetables and use them in the soups and salads. Some of our specialties are Mistress Catherine’s Fish Cakes made with salt cod and served with salad and homemade beans. The Orwell Salad is a potato salad with a delightful twist. Boiled baby reds tossed in home-made pesto dressing with cheddar cheese, boiled egg and green beans. Start with our Garden veggie soup or complete your meal with a moist carrot cake, bread pudding with whiskey sauce or our seasonal fruit dessert that changes with the season.

Sir Andrew Macphail was one of ten children raised in this mid 1800s farm house. Sir Andrew was a medical doctor, medical professor at McGill University, a prolific writer, editor of various magazines including founding and then being the first editor of the Canadian Medical Journal. In January 1918 Macphail received a knighthood for his literary accomplishments and military service. Macphail enlisted in World War I at the age of 50, and served at the front with a field ambulance corps for 20 months. As a member of the Sixth Field Ambulance, he served in several battles, including Vimy Ridge. You are invited to take a tour followed by a snack in the unique Veranda tearoom.

St. Andrew’s Chapel is a reconstruction of a Roman Catholic church built in 1805, by Scottish settlers under the direction of Angus Bernard MacEachern, who is listed as a National Historic Person. St. Andrew’s Chapel was the first major church in Prince Edward Island. It is a fine example of 18th Century architecture with original round-headed windows, a style used by early English and Scottish settlers. Replaced by a new and larger church in 1862, it stood abandoned until 1864 when it was moved 20 miles over the ice-covered river into Charlottetown, a feat considered little less than miraculous at that time. It became part of St. Joseph’s Convent and School. Until the school’s closure in 1975 this building served the young people of Charlottetown. In 1987 fire devasated the old convent but many timbers from the 1805 church miraculously remained. A group known as The Friends of St. Andrew’s returned the chared timbers to St. Andrew’s where they were reconstructed into St. Andrews Chapel.

Angus Bernard MacEachern, a pioneer missionary was born in 1759. He immigrated from Scotland in 1790. For 45 years he ministered zealously to the people of PEI, the Magdalen Islands, and to large sections of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Appointed Suffragan to the Bishop of Quebec in 1819, he became, in 1829, the first Bishop of Charlottetown with jurisdiction over PEI, New Brunswick and the Magdalen Islands. He founded the Island’s first institution of higher learning at St. Andrews in 1831. This distinguished ecclesiastical and civil leader died in 1835. A National Historical Monument to Angus Bernard MacEachern, First Bishop of Charlottetown, has been erected next to the Church and and the Bishop is buried in an adjacent crypt.
