Copper Bottom Presents:Vishten
In this exceptional summer season, Vishtèn’s multi-award winning Acadian Celtic repertoire is amplified in a rare collaboration with invited Island musicians and visual storytelling as they introduce PEI to the beautiful and charming artform of the crankie.
After spending more than fifteen summers delivering festival shows to international audiences, a quiet Fall and Winter at home in Charlottetown gave the trio some time for reflection and a renewed appreciation of the community and artistic life of the Island.
The outcome is Connexions, a unique, limited-run season in which Vishtèn have invited their friends, both Francophone and Anglophone, to celebrate the existing connections between Island musicians, and to create new relationships around Vishtèn’s music and the unique artform of the ‘crankie’ box – small moving panoramas that tell a story visually.
For this special show at Copper Bottom Brewery, Tim Chaisson will join Vishtèn, playing a few of his own songs and tunes as well as chiming in on Vishtèn’s blend of new and familiar material, while Island artists Monica Lacey and Norah Pendergast are each creating one new crankie to illustrate a selected Vishtèn piece. The reimagined and reinterpreted older repertoire lays the foundation for new material which will be featured for the first time in Connexions: original and adapted traditional songs and tunes electrified and modernised with Vishtèn’s multii instrumental line-up of fiddle, guitar, piano, whistle, piano accordion, bodhran, octave mandolin and percussive dance.
Tickets are $30 per seat and are sold by the table, with limited seating for groups of two, four and six to ensure proper physical distancing. Tickets can be purchased in the taproom or online via Eventbrite. Doors open at 6:30PM.
