Community: Montague Area
The Three Rivers, a 73km watershed, consist of the Montague/Valleyfield, Cardigan and Brudenell rivers. The Brudenell River goes up the middle. The Cardigan is on the North and the Montague is on the south and they meet at Cardigan Bay. Three Rivers was designated a Canadian Heritage River in 2004. These three rivers provided the transportation in early times and shaped the heart and the history of the Three Rivers area.
Points East Coastal Drive has four rivers designated as Canadian Heritage Rivers. The rivers join an elite group of the most beautiful and historic rivers in Canada. This means that the river system has outstanding natural, cultural and recreational values and a high level of public support. It is part of Canada’s national river conservation program to manage its heritage and recreational features in the future. The 45km Hillsborough River waterway was designated in 1997.
