Gordon Belsher

Winner of the PEI Music Association 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award, Gordon Belsher has been performing in Canada and around the world for more than 40 years. He is a fixture of the Island music scene, based out of his home in Guernsey Cove, Eastern PEI.

East of the Wood Islands Ferry – I love driving on the south shore road east of the Wood Islands ferry as you can see the mainland of Nova Scotia. You know you’re on an Island, and it makes you feel quite “smug”. The Wood Islands ferry is a real taste of Island life in and of itself, where on board there has often been the Music on Deck program with Island artists performing.

All Around Points East – There’s no end to the list of my favorite things to do in Eastern PEI. One can hardly make up one’s mind. Inland, there’s the ‘road through the hills’ of Caledonia with rolling countryside vistas, or hiking through the fields, woods, and bog to the dunes at Greenwich, part of the PEI National Park. And there’s more beaches beyond Greenwich, of course, a couple of my favorites include Panmure Island & Basin Head. There are two lighthouses I’m particularly attached to: the lighthouse at Point Prim, an impressive structure where climbing to the top is its own adventure, more than worth the spectacular view and adjacent to a very popular chowder house; and the lighthouse at Cape Bear, where one of the first signals from the Titanic was received – yet more life-by-the-sea culture to absorb and yet more towering, spectacular views. And there are places to stop, shop and sip, including the wineries Rossignol in Little Sands and Newman Estate in Gladstone and the Copper Bottom craft brewery in Montague. And there’s one other special place in Murray River; the Old General Store, housed in an 1800's historic building adorned with a beautiful outdoor mural, and a beautiful hostess to match (my wife!)
