Montague Paint it Beautiful – Plein-Air Festival

Six spectacular paint-outs over five days in June, are at the core of Montague - Paint it Beautiful 2014 Plein-Air Festival featuring some of the most stunning scenery, charming villages and historic towns that Eastern PEI has to offer. Each day participants will visit a different venue setting up their easels, squeezing colours onto palettes in a celebration of the landscape.

Participating artists will celebrate the landscape in paint and compete for over $4000 in awards, featuring Artists Choice, People Choice, and the Mayors Choice award, Blank canvas and paper will be validated on each day's paint-out and these paintings will be eligible for submission to the exhibition gallery, as well as any paintings made on any day or evening of the festival in Montague. As well as attending the festival exhibition of completed paintings, a lobster supper, concert and a Grand Finale awards ceremony to announce the awards, non-participants are welcome to come along to see the artists at work "en plein air” - to appreciate, encourage, and ask about the creative process at first hand.

Remembering the Master's Wife

There was more to 1864 than the Charlottetown Conference. That autumn, one of Canada's most accomplished men of letter, Sir Andrew Macphail, was born at Orwell. His memoir, "The Master's Wife," captures the strangeness and beauty of a vanished Island world of mussel mud, cloth making, fiddling duels, rum drinking, prayers and funerals. The Homestead Players bring this classic book to the stage in word, music and song.
