The historic Homestead in Orwell is a beautiful place to celebrate Thanksgiving. The leaves in the Macphail Woods are starting to turn yellow and red and it’s a beautiful place to find peace and calm. The staff at Macphails will be serving a scrumptious Roast Turkey Dinner. Meat and vegetables will be locally sourced. The Homestead garden has produced another lovely crop of heritage vegetables, these are grown without pesticides or fertilizers other than fish fertilizer, much like the Macphail family would have 150 years ago.
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners are a major fundraiser for the Macphail Board, a non-profit who runs the Homestead to keep the history and memory of the place alive. On offer this year is a three course meal, cash bar, a fire if it’s a cool day, for $30 per person, a group of 4 costs $100. On Saturday, Oct 7th is the evening meal starting at 5:30 and Sunday lunch will be served at 1:30. We suggest making an outing of it and taking a stroll before or after the meal, the grounds, gardens and woods and stream are wonderful to walk with others or in solitude. To reserve a table for your group please email Angela at firstname.lastname@example.org. We can offer gluten-free and vegetarian options.
