Members of the PEI Amateur Radio Group will set up antennas and radios at the East Point Lighthouse Aug 18.
This temporary setup is to allow for participation in the International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend (ILLW) which takes place each year on the third full weekend in August. This yuear, over 500 lighthouses in over 40 countries will be on the air attempting to make as many contacts as possible during the 48 hour period commencing at 9pm on Friday.
This year the participation of the East Point Lighthouse in the ILLW is particularly significant as it has been designated the Confederation Lighthouse. The lighthouse earned this distinction as it is the only surviving structure of two built in 1867.
The public is invited to drop by and attempt a radio contact under the supervision of a licensed amateur.
