Description:

The Northumberland Fisheries Festival is a long-standing tradition in the community of Murray River, Prince Edward Island. Started after the completion of the Northumberland Arena in 1980, residents and tourists alike have gathered each July for 38 years to socialize, eat delicious local food, take in lots of entertainment, and participate in our many activities.

Thursday, July 27

  • 6:30PM - Annual Festival-Opening Parade "Celebrating Canada's 150th Birthday!" (Prizes to be awarded at the arena parking lot immediately following parade)
  • 7:30PM - Poker Registration at the Fisherman's Loft (Upstairs @ the Arena)  **Please note that the arena will NOT be open for events Thursday evening - all indoor events will resume Friday, July 28**

Friday, July 28

  • 10:00AM – Petting Zoo (at adjacent building to arena)
  • 11:30PM – Poultry Show Judging (in adjacent building to arena)
  • 12:30PM – Giant Slip N Slide (Murray River ball field)  **Children must be accompanied by an adult, play at your own risk.
  • 3:00PM – Official Opening Ceremony - Bouncy Rides Open - Take Out Lobster or Ham Suppers begin - Rabbit and Bunny Display
  • 3:00-9:00PM – Silent Auction
  • 3:30PM – Miss. Northumberland Pageant (First Segment)
  • 4:00-7:15PM – The Island Variety Concert - a great mix of talented PEI musicians! Stay tuned for the list of performers!
  • 4:00-6:00PM – Drop in & Play with Bricks 4 Kidz Lego Zone
  • 4:00-7:00PM – Eat-In Lobster or Ham Suppers
  • 7:30PM – Male Parade of Fashion
  • 8:00PM – Miss. Northumberland Pageant (2nd Segment - Talent Portion)
  • 9:00PM – Music by Niall MacKay & The Decoders
  • 9:00PM – Movie Under the Stars! - Outdoor Movie Night (Murray River Ball Field - Carboard Drive-In Contest! We are asking the kiddos to fashion their own car out of a cardboard box to watch the movie in! Each child who comes with a cardboard car will be entered in a draw for a prize!  **Please keep cars low enough so the people behind you can see too!

Saturday, July 29

  • 8:30AM – Car Rally Registration (9AM start – Murray River Wharf)
  • 10:00AM – Dory Rowing Competition (Sponsored by Jamie Miller Trucking - BBQ on the Wharf
  • 11:30AM – Log Rolling Competition - Kayak Races (life jackets required) (Murray River Wharf)
  • 12:30PM – Scavenger Hunt (Kings Castle Provincial Park)
  • 1:30PM – “Shiver Me Timbers Children’s Show” - with The Music Man – Michael Pendergast (Northumberland Arena)
  • 1:30-7:00PM – Silent Auction
  • 2:45-3:45PM – Old Fashioned Ceilidh
  • 3:00PM – Watermelon Eating Contest & Take – Out Lobster or Ham Suppers begin
  • 4:00-5:00PM – Michelle Banks’ Dancers
  • 4:00-7:00PM – Eat-In Lobster or Ham Suppers
  • 5:15-6:15PM – Garnet Buell & The Singing Islanders
  • 5:30PM – Murray River vs. Murray Harbour Fireman’s Softball Game
  • 6:30-7:30PM – Music by The Keynotes
  • 6:30-7:30PM – Visit from Spidey & PEI’s Little Mermaid (Sponsored by Bradley-Handrahan Chartered Accountants)
  • 8:00PM – Miss. Northumberland Pageant (3rd Segment - Evening Wear Portion)
  • 8:30PM – $20,000 Cash Draw
  • 9:00PM – Crowning of Miss. Northumberland 2017

Sunday, July 30

  • 10:00-11:15AM – Community Worship Celebration hosted by the Southern Kings Ministerial Churches (no admission, loose offering to Food Bank)
  • 12:00PM – Seaside Poker Run - Can be done by car or by boat. Visit 4 wharves in our community drawing 5 cards total - best poker hand wins! (Murray River Wharf)
  • 3:00PM – Poker Run Closes - All cards AND cardholders MUST be at the Murray River Wharf by 3:30PM to be considered for a prize! If you have a good hand - get into the wharf!
